Historic spaces
For a heritage setting, agree camera positions and movement routes with the site before filming. Protecting the visitor experience and the space comes first; some rooms or objects may need additional permission or restrictions.
Newcastle based · covering Durham and the North East
DS Media produces business, sports and event video in Durham and across County Durham. Based in Newcastle, we plan the filming day around the venue, schedule and intended audience, then agree the edits and delivery dates in advance. The aim is to make useful films from the access and time available, whether that means a story-led business profile, event highlights or several short pieces from one production.
County Durham coverage
Durham projects can mean a workplace interview, a university or association conference, a community event, or a sports participation story. Each asks for different coverage. A business film may need interviews and carefully chosen working shots; a conference needs a camera plan that fits the agenda; a sports film needs a considered balance of action, people and supporting details.
We start with the intended use. If the video will introduce the organisation, we prioritise a clear message and human point of view. If it will promote a future event, we identify the moments that help an audience picture taking part. If it is internal, the structure and intelligibility matter more than a fast montage.
Our sports video production page includes Durham City Run alongside governing-body work. For business stories, see corporate video production.
Durham City Run · Events of the North
A dedicated drone pilot and a mobile ground crew captured the race from different vantage points around Durham. Planning the route between camera positions meant staying ahead of the runners while keeping pace with the event.

For a heritage setting, agree camera positions and movement routes with the site before filming. Protecting the visitor experience and the space comes first; some rooms or objects may need additional permission or restrictions.
For filming in a university museum, collection or venue, ask the operator about current commercial filming permissions before booking the shoot. Durham University Libraries and Collections explains its permission process in its official photography and filming policy.
The run of show tells us when the room changes, where interviews can happen and which parts should not be interrupted. We confirm a quiet interview area, access times, power and the best route for moving gear before shoot day.
Plan content beyond one edit
For a conference or public event, decide whether you need a single recap, speaker extracts, short social edits or interview clips. These are different deliverables and should be scoped before filming. We can plan interview prompts, capture supporting footage and build a sequence that keeps context around each clip.
For a business film, the main edit might sit on your website while shorter versions support a recruitment post, service page or campaign. We agree frame sizes, captions, music use and review rounds before production so the files arrive ready for the intended channels.

Budget and next steps
Every proposal sets out filming time, crew, locations, the number and type of finished films, revision rounds and delivery timing. A two-hour event highlight package is £550 and is delivered within 14 days. The £1,200 Business Content Starter combines four films and 50 edited photographs for smaller teams. Other briefs are priced individually because access, travel and production requirements vary. Start with the project enquiry or read the pricing guide before you compare quotes.
If your venue is still being chosen, ask about commercial filming permission while comparing options. Durham University and other venue operators have their own terms. We can help plan camera positions and outputs once the organiser has confirmed what the site allows.
View selected projects ↗Sport and participation
Sports and participation films need more than action footage. Depending on the purpose, the story may include an athlete's perspective, volunteers, coaches, organisers, community activity and the details that help someone understand what taking part involves. We agree the audience and message before filming so the edit does not become a highlight reel without context.
Our regional sports work includes Durham City Run, Volleyball England and Netball Europe, as outlined on the sports video service page. A new Durham project would still be scoped on its own facts: event access, routes, contributor availability, safeguarding or consent needs, the race-day schedule and where the video will be shown.
For university or association conferences, the brief should cover speakers, sessions, available audio feeds, interviews, sponsor requirements and whether the client needs a recap or full recordings. Our camera planning guide explains questions to settle with the venue and AV team.
Once the objective and schedule are clear, we can recommend an appropriate filming plan and fixed set of deliverables. Contact us through the project enquiry with the date, Durham location and desired outcome; if a venue is still being selected, share the shortlist and we'll identify the access questions to resolve.
Visitor, learning and community stories
When a film includes a distinctive building, site or landscape, the filming plan needs to show why that place matters to the story. Begin with the message and people involved, then decide which establishing views and details will help a viewer follow along. A location should add context rather than act as decoration.
For education, charity or community work, identify contributors early and explain how the video will be used. If children, service users or members of the public may appear, agree consent and safeguarding processes with the organisation before filming. Avoid recording private information, screens or materials that have not been approved for public release.
For a live programme, confirm the schedule, transition times, rooms, sound and permissions with the organiser. A short interview can be planned during a break, while b-roll from the programme supplies context in the edit. If your priority is a fast event recap, set a review deadline and a named approver in advance.
We can help turn those practical details into a realistic filming day and edit list. Use the shoot checklist and event brief guide to prepare your project information before requesting a quote.
